Apostles Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell. On the third day, He rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
As a reminder, our theological distinctives are:
1. We have a reformed soteriology.
We locate ourselves within the Reformed Tradition. Theologically this means our doctrine is rooted in the “five solas” of the Protestant Reformation (Scripture alone, faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone, and God’s glory alone) and shaped by the confessions of Reformed churches (Westminster, London Baptist, etc.) Our confessional statement is, in many ways, a modern adaptation of these historical documents.
2. We hold a continuationist view of the Holy Spirit
We affirm, desire, and practice the continued presence and activity of the Holy Spirit in the church, including through miraculous gifts. We believe the practice of the gifts is meant to be orderly and edifying to the body. We believe every Christian is indwelt with the Holy Spirit fully and immediately upon conversion to faith in Christ.
3. We live out a warm complementarianism
We affirm that men and women are unequivocally equal in essence, dignity, and value. We also affirm that God created humans male and female to be distinct and mutually dependent. We seek to honor both of these convictions while acknowledging the longstanding difficulties and cultural assumptions that often inform church belief and practice. We believe that the home and the church (a spiritual household) will be healthiest when men and women are mutually dependent in their distinctiveness.
4. We baptize believers by immersion
We affirm baptism as the external sign of entrance into God’s covenant community. The best practices of baptism honor the activity of God, the church, and the person receiving baptism. We recognize the diversity of practice on this issue throughout church history and seek to avoid division over this issue.
